Bike to Work Day

Release Date: Friday, May 1st 2009

Ready to trade in your car wheels for bike wheels? Bike-to-Work Day rolls around on May 15, when hundreds of workers are expected to ride into Downtown to celebrate the one-day bike fest, promoting a fun, healthy and eco-friendly way to get to work.

Bike-to-Work Day is part of National Bike Month, a time when communities across the country celebrate cycling and cleaner, healthier living. Started by the League of American Bicyclists in 1956, Bike Month also includes Bike-to-Work Week, celebrated May 11 to 15. The Washington Area Bicyclist Association will lead the one-day local event, offering 26 regional pit stops where cyclists can meet up, eat breakfast, enjoy entertainment, win prizes and pedal to their destinations, including Freedom Plaza on 14th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, the central pit location.
