It’s time to roll out the red carpet for the fifth annual BET Honors awards show, returning to the Warner Theater (513 13th Street) at 7:00 pm on Saturday, January 14. Expect parking restrictions and street and sidewalk closures.
The private affair celebrates the outstanding achievements of seven extraordinary legends in music, literature, entertainment, media, service, and education, and will feature a star-studded lineup, with performances by Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle and Common, and appearances by Cicely Tyson, Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, and Willow Smith.
Poet and author Dr. Maya Angelou; internationally acclaimed musician Stevie Wonder; Grammy-Award winning singer Mariah Carey; filmmaker Spike Lee; American’s first black military pilots, the Tuskegee Airmen; and track coach and mentor Beverly Kearney are this year’s honorees. Actress Gabrielle Union will host the show.
Several parking restrictions and street and sidewalk closures will go into effect days before the awards show and pre-show, which begins at 5:30 pm. They are as follows:
