All Wired Up

Release Date: Friday, April 10th 2009

Casey Trees has jumped into high-tech mode with a redesigned website, a re-launched blog and new connections on Facebook and Twitter—and it’s offering a low-tech way for tree lovers to win a Japanese cherry tree.

To reach both old and new supporters in novel new ways, the nonprofit organization that restores, enhances and protects the tree canopy in DC, has spruced up its ability to stay in touch 24/7. Besides the revamped website, the “Tree Speak” blog, Facebook and Twitter, Casey Trees will soon debut on Flickr, the photo sharing and management site.

To lure visitors to all of these sites to get helpful tree care tips, view post-planting photos and learn about educational and volunteer opportunities, Casey Trees has tapped into the recent fervor over the National Cherry Blossom Festival®. Anyone joining its Facebook group and Fan Page by Sunday, April 12—the festival’s last day—will be eligible to win a Japanese cherry tree, just like the tree species found along the Tidal Basin. Two caveats: the winner must live in DC, and the tree must be planted here. To find out more, visit www.caseytrees.org.
