Located in the historic old Post Office building, the Smithsonian National Postal Museum which opened in 1993, is home to  one of the world’s largest collections of stamps and philatelic materials.  Exhibits include postal history material that pre-dates stamps, vehicles used to transport the mail, mailboxes and mailbags, postal uniforms and equipment and other items.
