Hours: M-F 8:45a - 4p

You'll hear about the history of the FBI, take a look at the actual FBI labs, and witness the shooting displays. The first director, J. Edgar Hoover was born in Washington. He wanted attention brought to the good work of the Bureau, so he decided to introduce the public to the Bureau's work through tours. When the new FBI building was designed in the late 1960's, the architect, Stanley Gladych, set aside a large part of one floor in the building to be used specifically for tours. The exhibit halls give an idea of the history and different areas of federal crime the FBI Special Agents investigate, such as foreign counter-intelligence, terrorism, white-collar crime, organized crime, and narcotics violations. Viewing the serology lab, the fiber analysis lab, and the firearms demonstrations are part of the tour.

Tours of the FBI Building have been suspended indefinitely. For periodic updates on its possible reopening please call (202) 324-3447.
