The National Museum of Crime & Punishment has partnered with Association for Research into Crimes against Art (ARCA) to focus on Crimes in the Arts. With the research assistance of the Association for Research into Crimes against Art this exhibit of theft, forgeries, and looting of art works over the centuries includes a special display on the largest property crime in US History, the 1990 Gardner Museum heist in Boston.  Still an unsolved case, 13 works of art by Vermeer, Degas, Rembrandt, Manet, and others were stolen by thieves disguised as policemen.

ARCA is an interdisciplinary think tank/research group on contemporary issues in art crime. This international non-profit organization studies issues in art crime and cultural property protection, runs educational programs, and consults on art protection and recovery issues brought to them by police, governments, museums, places of worship, and other public institutions.
