Crafting a Collection
Elmerina and Paul Parkman and John Kotelly describe the opportunities and challenges in building a collection in the fascinating world of contemporary American craft and decorative arts.
Elmerina and Paul Parkman have been collectors of American studio glass since the early 1970s. They are founding members and past presidents of the James Renwick Alliance, and serve on the Board of Directors of the Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass. Paul Parkman is a former commissioner at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Pieces from their collection have been in museum exhibitions around the world.
John Kotelly is a commissioner at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and a past president of the James Renwick Alliance. He and his wife, Colleen, have been avid collectors of contemporary decorative arts for over thirty years and were named in the "Top 100 Collectors in America" by Art & Antiques magazine. Their collection focuses on American and European studio crafts.
