The Cherry Blossom Freedom Walk, an official event of the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC, is an annual event held at the National Japanese American Memorial. It is a historical and cultural event which seeks to raise awareness about the Japanese American experience during World War II. This year marks the Tenth Anniversary of the National Japanese American Memorial. To celebrate this anniversary, a special group of former internees will come together to share their personal experiences of life in the camps and military service during World War II. This year will also recognize the contributions of former Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta, Ambassador Ichiro Fujisaki, and D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty with special awards to thank them for their key support of the Memorial and its educational mission.
