Manager of Development & Corporate Sponsorships
The Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) currently is recruiting for a Manager of Development and Corporate Sponsorships, with primary focus on increasing support for the National Cherry Blossom Festival. The National Cherry Blossom Festival is an annual two-week Festival celebrating springtime in Washington, as well as the 1912 gift of cherry trees and the enduring friendship between the people of the United States and Japan.  The festival raises funds to offer events that are mostly free and open to the public.

Primary responsibilities of the position will be to help develop long- and short-range fund raising plans, and strategies to identify and successfully cultivate donors and prospects.  It will include personal visits to donors, relationship building on behalf of the program, and proposal writing. The manager will also promote opportunities through current giving programs and through printed materials, receptions and other events.  The incumbent will also prepare comprehensive reports, manage the documentation process and coordinate volunteers and part-time staff support.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival is operated through a management services contract with the Downtown Business Improvement District, and although focused on the National Cherry Blossom Festival, this position will also contribute development and sponsorship expertise to other festivals and events designed to enhance Downtown DC.

As an integral part of the Downtown BID events team, this salaried exempt position participates fully in producing and executing the Festival and other events. This requires flexibility to be available evenings and weekends and to work additional hours during peak periods.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Finance, Business Development or other related field, with CFRE preferred.  Minimum of five years’ experience in fundraising is required; corporate and major gift cultivation/solicitation and experience in fundraising operations and staff/volunteer coordination is desirable.  S/he will have a history of successful development accomplishments, and a demonstrated ability to design and implement effective cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies for individual and corporate giving.  Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with high net worth individuals, corporations and foundations; superior communication and writing skills; and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint as well as strong database management skills are necessary.  Demonstrated desire and capacity to work collaboratively with colleagues and consultants. Requires outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail and high productivity.

We offer competitive salary, excellent benefits, convenient work location near Metro Center and the opportunity to be part of world-class special events and a collaborative, energetic and dedicated professional team.
