Diana Mayhew is the Director of Events at the DowntownDC BID and President of the National Cherry Blossom Festival. Since she joined the BID more than a decade ago, the Festival, which attracts more than a million visitors, has grown from an all-volunteer organization to one with a full-time staff of seven. Under Diana's leadership, the Festival is now internationally recognized and offers multiple signature events, including Family Day and the Official Opening Ceremony, and generates more than $100 million for the city. A 25-year veteran of Washington’s hospitality industry, Diana came to the BID after serving as the Marketing Director of Odyssey Cruises and the Spirit of Washington. While there, she interacted briefly with the Festival, which was comprised of a few events and supported by a handful of volunteers. In 2012, the National Cherry Blossom Festival will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the gift of trees from Japan. Diana and her team are planning a spectacular Centennial Celebration, even as they continue to plan the annual Festival and oversee major BID events such as the Downtown Holiday Market and Arts on Foot. Over the years, Diana has received several awards for her dedicated service. She is a member of Leadership Greater Washington, the Destination DC Marketing Advisory Committee, and the Woman’s Leadership Group of Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington. An area resident for many years, Diana now lives in Maryland with her husband and has four children. |
