Chet Grey is the Director of Homeless Services at the DowntownDC BID, a position he has held since 2002. He facilitates dialogue and builds consensus to help provide for the housing and personal needs of Downtown's homeless population, aimed at decreasing the number of homeless adults living on Downtown streets and in shelters. He initiates partnerships with city government and nearly 20 other service providers to incorporate best practices to end homelessness.

Under Chet's leadership, the BID has formed the only non-governmental, clinically-based outreach team for the chronically homeless in DC.

He has advocated for people without homes for more than 40 years, serving as a consultant to numerous cities, including Los Angeles, New Orleans, Atlanta and San Francisco, and organizations such as the US Department of Health and Human Services and the International Downtown Association. He came to the BID after serving in the religious sector for many years and determined that the best solution to reducing homelessness is a collaboration between the faith and business communities, law enforcement, social services and government. He also is a former Navy Reserve Chaplain (Commander).

Chet has a bachelor's and a master's degree from Emory University as well as a master’s degree from the University of the South. He serves on the Mayor’s Interagency Council on Homelessness, the Department of Mental Health Partnership Council, and various task forces, organizations and committees throughout the District. He lives in Virginia.
